Flashback Friday - More Joe Raposo

As with every Friday, I'm bringing back memories from the 70s and 80s...
Each week, there'll be at least one Sesame Street clip and one other memory-evoking clip of the time.

This week we're starting off with some Joe Raposo classics from Sesame St, and ending with a classic TV show theme with one of my favourite actors (I'll let you guess which one!). Enjoy!

Flashback Friday

Ok so in last week's Writer's Workshop I talked about Sesame Street, and how the new Sesame Street just doesn't match up to the old. A few of you responded and expressed that you felt the same way. So to you fellow original Sesame Street fans (I hear "Vintage" is what they're calling it - to which I respond "Do I look Vintage to YOU?!") I thought I'd share some of my favourite "Street" songs with you.

Let me leave you with a quote from Joe Raposo himself, which I think expresses the vision that made Sesame Street the icon it became for my generation.

Writers Workshop - Friendly Advice!

Today's chosen Writers Workshop prompt is #5 - Friendly Advice

This is a great topic for me. I have lots of advice to give. :-)

Lord knows I've gotten enough advice, and now that I'm a Mommy of Three, I earned the right to dish it back out. Ha.

[To Richard Simmons:] I don't mean to be mean, but I have to be straight - comedy is not your thing. Stay away. Sorry. Your appearance on Drew Carey's "Whose Line Is It Anyway" was one of the most painful things I could not look away from.

[To SuperNanny:] I have no advice for you. I just wanted to pretend I do. You're awesome. Keep on keeping on. Do you babysit? :-)

[To the sweet little neighbour boy:] I like your free spirit. Please make a sound when you come visit. Turning around and finding you just behind me in the furthest reaches of my house is not good for my heart.

[To the Children's Television Workshop:] Sesame Street was iconic and revolutionary and touched the lives of millions worldwide. Don't lose your edge by trying to compete with the mainstream. The legacy of your creative risk-taking is why you have your viewership today. Today's kid viewers aren't going to make their kids watch Sesame Street though, unless you hit your creative stride once more. Oscar is called a Grouch for a reason. Stop milking Elmo. He doesn't need half the program. We're losing you to Political Correctness. And some of your content is as revolutionary and memorable now as it was then. Like this

I'd love to sit and watch you with my kids on TV instead of YouTube. I know grown people who can recite entire sketches word for word, and frankly... we miss you.
