Wee Drama

This is so not what this post was supposed to be about!
It is the wee hours of the morning. And I have locked myself out.

Not out of the house, but out of the bedrooms. Sigh. Yes, my brilliance astounds even me. :-)
Let me explain. The bedrooms are all interconnected behind 2 doors that lead to the rest of the house. You can lock those doors and still roam freely between the bedrooms. So every night, I lock us safely behind those doors at bedtime. But not tonight.

Tonight, I was exhausted. I was in bed and had everyone asleep BEFORE 9PM! But when I woke up to get in a load of laundry (the never-ending laundry I was GOING to write about) I realized that all the doors were sprawling open and all the lights on. Clearly husband was exhausted too.

It would seem that I locked one door, went through the bedrooms taking off lights on my way and exiting through the other door, locking that behind me. Want to know how I found out?

Noises.

Yep. Noises in the yard. I kid you not. I am secretly quaking as I write this. (Mommy!)

So flashback to LAST night, I'm out here in the living room reading my rounds of news and such waiting for a load of laundry to be done so I can drop it in the dryer and head back to bed. And I hear a noise. I hear several noises, as a matter of fact. And I hope that what they are is the neighbour's overripe mangoes dropping onto his roof below. The new neighbour on the other side has cats. And they can't stay in their own yard. Maybe it's them. Right. Gotta be them.

I dare not wake hubby. It'll just be nothing again, and I will be mortified. Besides, wouldn't the dogs be barking? So I am brave, and I ignore every single one of those noises, explaining them away in my head.

10AM and I get a call from hubby saying the lock on the passenger side door's been tampered with and it seems someone was trying to get into the car last night. And all of a sudden it comes back to me and I feel so guilty for not saying anything.

But really what was he going to do at 2am? Was he going to go scouting around outside - let's be real. Besides. It was probably just the little neighbourhood kids - maybe somebody was playing phone booth with the key slot on the door? (One can hope!)

But NOW, here I am sitting here at the computer and I hear enough noises again to make me go flying for the door. Only it's locked. Crap. Fly to the next door. What the so-and-so! As realization dawns on me, I seeeeriously consider knocking on the door and waking hubby, kids, everyone so I can get back in. But I can't make them go to school all groggy because Mommy is an idiot who locked herself out and imagined burglars. I am a Grown Up for goodness sake.

So here I am trying to type really quietly. So in case anything happens to me, yall can tell my story. Very unnerving though. What the hell are those noises - seriously! Okay why has the child chosen tonight of all nights to sleep through the night? Wake up! And wake your father with you!

Oh. Em. Gee. There go the dogs. Pleh! (That's Help backward for you non-Sesame St people out there.)

**** UPDATE ****
Ok update, update!
It would appear that the large overripe mangoes and the neighbour's roof were behind all the racket last night. I swear that tree had to be pelting those mangoes at the galvanized iron roof, and clearly there will be no noise tonight since surely the tree has gotten rid of every single ripe mangoes that was clinging to its stems and hiding from my sweet child who has quite an affinity for a ripe Julie mango.

So we're all ok, and the front door that we found not totally shut this morning - put that down to the husband when he came in last night.

Thanks for all your concern! ;-) I think it was really just divine inspiration so that I could have something fresh to submit to Mama Kat for her Writer's Workshop tomorrow! Before you ask, yes this really happened, and no I did not know her prompts before I wrote this. Matter of fact I wrote this before she posted her prompts for the week. Imagine my shock reading her prompts this morning after having posted my Tale of the Nightly Noises.

Speaking of which - here are the prompts. I'll let you guess which prompt I fit.
1.) What does marriage mean to you?
(inspired by

Time to laugh

Ok my brain is too spazzed out to think straight to write too much today. I've already done my post for tomorrow's writing assignment, and I just can't think of anything else today.

I just have funny images or other people's stories floating around in my head. So I'm just going to post links to those and hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

You know those cute little playhouses that look just like a real house, just kid-sized? Well Momma Such over at Raising My 4 Sons has a really funny story to tell you about her boys' playhouse.

Then Jen over at Buried with Children has uncovered a tragedy happening just under our noses. Check out her expose on Ice Cream abuse. I thank you, Jen, for your commitment to this worthy cause.

For fans of soduku - this one is really corny, but I loved it. Check out http://xkcd.com/74.

Hope at least one of these brings a smile to your face. :-)
