And it amazes me that bullying can still happen in adulthood.
A specific workplace bully comes to mind, and I'm struggling to find the compassion and to understand what motivates her. Despite the personal attacks I know she truly believes her own hype.
I should be grateful really. She has taught me patience in a weird roundabout way, because she can make my blood boil, but I try very hard not to respond in kind because I know she's always spoiling for a fight.
She is always surrounded by battles, and she's like a pit-bull. Logic and reasoning and common sense won't make her let go - she's going to hold on either until someone beats her over the head to let go, or she has some sense of victory.
Her favourite target? Me. :-)
One by one, she forced anyone who did not agree with her to leave. Most left voluntarily because she made their lives miserable. Some were asked to leave, their actions aggressively portrayed as harmful to the well-being of the company. Until only two were left standing.
Career bankers both of us (this was a financial institution), we knew how to focus on getting our work done and to work diplomatically with this... individual. When I got pregnant, I knew she would try to sabotage me as she had done others. What I could not foresee is that she would go after my job.
Why would I - she has no IT experience whatsoever. How could she be responsible for the institution's IT? This person who has asked me more than once - "What do yall do up there?" Well it could and did happen - because no-one wanted to be next in her line of fire.
And now all the policies I put in place that she saw as just being there to frustrate her? Promptly removed. It's been just about 6 months, and I think some congratulations are in order.
Those deadlines that I said were unrealistic and that October 31st was more likely? I might have been right about that. But congratulations on the cost overruns on a product that I'm still certain is not going to deliver what you think it is.
Congratulations also on the new critical security breaches. Next time you rip out a policy, you may want to weigh the risk of those actions with a subject matter expert first.
Congratulations on your week-long outages. My succession plans and business continuity procedures were clearly garbage. I see that now.
We have a saying here: "God don't sleep." God sees all things.
And another: "What miss yuh, ent pass yuh". You might think you've gotten away with something, but judgement lies ahead of you.
I think you have one too: "Karma's a b*tch".
I promise the frog doesn't die in the video below
